Michael A. McGuire

CURSED

My God! Why was I cursed to write
endless lines and rhymes? Why is my
mind always filled with fire?

Quick! Someone extinguish my Soul
before the coals ignite into flame
once again!

WHERE?

Where is my:
HAPPINESS
COMFORT
LOVE
UNDERSTANDING
JUSTICE
FREEDOM
TRUTH
RESPECT
SANITY
LIFE?
There is NONE!
Therefore: I am not!

UNBALANCED

We will work until we die!
One day, we might even drown
in the endless tears we cry!

This World will never change,
no matter how hard we try.

Why does it always have to be:
Me, Myself and I?

There’s a damn raw exhaustion running through these three pieces, with “CURSED,” “WHERE?,” and “UNBALANCED” each attacking a different kind of imprisonment: the mind that won’t stop burning, the life that feels stripped of everything it needs, and the world that keeps demanding more. “There is NONE! Therefore: I am not!” is the keeper for me, because that brutally simple equation turns absence into an identity crisis and leaves the reader staring straight into the speaker’s emptiness.

I find myself speaking rhymes to myself tangling thoughts with verse. The question is whether it is a bad habit or a curse but truth is it is how the brain works. A write that I can identify with my friend.

Michael, “Therefore: I am not!” is such a sharp little turn. Existential crisis achieved in about ten seconds flat. 😂 🌹🖤🙏🕯️🐦‍⬛
