Talking on the phone,
I hurriedly moved from room to room,
dressed in an outdoor outfit,
all the while he sat,
in the middle of the room,
staring at me.
He knew I was going out,
and also knew he isn't coming,
which made him sad,
as he never stays away.
The minute I looked at him,
he wagged, jumped,
hoping and trying to convince me perhaps,
take me too with you, mommy!
But I said, bye baby,
I will be back soon!
that tail stopped to wag,
those big eyes got rounder
and his lip line sagged downwards.
I cut my plans short,
friends with no pets asked,
was he that important?
disappointed family reasoned,
family should come first.
How do I explain,
he is my family,
he is my best friend,
he is my child,
he is my World.
The minute I walked in the door,
he ran and hugged me,
with the same wags,
and love that never wavers.
Did he remember how sad,
I made him before I left?
did he remember, how disappointed,
he was when I said,
no, you are not allowed baby?
I guess that's what makes him special.
You ask, why him and not us?
because he gave me,
that unconditional love,
for him I mattered,
for him I am the one
for him I am everything!
I am his World,
and he makes my World happier!

- Comment from author about the poem: There are two categories of people, one who love animals another who don't. The don't are actually those who either have no experience with an animal or probably someone who had a bad experience with an untrained pet. Nevertheless, it is truly sad that some miss out big on knowing or feeling that love from a four legged, because it is entirely a different world and unconditional. Unless you experience it yourself, it is impossible to break it down in words.

A dog is special and that is why he is called man's best friend they are loyal and don't betray as people do. Their love is unconditional and unwavering. Nicely told.
