She was only ten, a tiny child back then, but still quite a scrapper
She'd never back down, in shorts or gown, no one dared to slap her
It was late, when I took her to skate, on the rough side of town
The only white kid there, but she didn't care if others were black or brown
Took off her shoes, so not to lose she put under a bench what was her pride
She hit the rink but when returned her heart did sink, a little girl had her shoes by her side
She tried diplomacy first, but the bubble did burst, as the girl held them tighter
Under attack the girl's brother on her back, she showed them she was a fighter
Joining her brother came her father and mother, her extended family were here
Aunts, uncles and cousins came by the dozens yet in her eyes no fear
Like a pitbull pup I picked her up and with her shoes we ran away
Rocks thrown at the car, as I drove far to where it was safer to play
If you confuse which are your shoes don't fight with my kid
Now a beauty that's grown, chipped out of stone, she's a model that can black your eyelid

You would not want a fight with her
Thanks Norman for the review. A true story my oldest daughter, small and petite and later an international model had this happen when small to this day she will never back down more of a fighter than my sons.
My daughter is the same, I always say as ive got older shes like my mother, I think daughters take over the role lol
If it ain't yours don't take it. If you do take it, expect a slap.
Once upon a time this was law.
I like kids that stand up for their rights, it means they were brought up the right way.
Thanks Paul for the read and comment it means a lot.
Soren, this is a tense one...that little girl’s grit comes through hard, but so does the fear of realizing the whole room has turned and it is time to go. Strong write. 🌹🖤🙏🕯️🐦⬛
Thanks Tristan for your read and yes it was a tense moment when I saw the atmosphere in the rink change it was time to grab the kid and go. So sad because it was no one's fault the other girl had shoes the same as my daughter and had just grabbed the wrong ones unknowingly but could not be convinced. Appreciate you my friend.
Reminds me of one of my sisters. No one dared cross her. As a toddler she even teethed on everyone close enough to sink her budding teeth into. A thoroughly enjoyed poem, my friend. 👍🏻🤩🕊️
Thank you my friend your words are always cherished
Most welcome Soren
Good write SB.
Thanks so much Orchi it is as always most appreciated.
One Tough Cookie as they say.
A bit nasty at the end though. A good Write on a difficult incident.
Thanks Kevin for the read and comment. Yea that was my kid.
My Pleasure.
Great account of a not uncommon interaction between humans. You could have been famous. There's a certain TV channel here which routinely finds such differences of opinion.
Never produced a daughter, but if I had, she would, I hope be the one...
Thanks Dave very proud of all my kids but this one was the spunkiest. She looks a lot like a cross between Christie Brinkley and Sydney Sweeney but fights like Rocky Marciano. Appreciate your read my friend.
lol how cool, and an I international model no less, I would be intrigued to know who she is. So very cool 😎
Thank you so much Teddy for the read and comment yes used to be, gave it up to have children finish her school getting her master's degree and working on her doctorate.
beautiful and Intelligent 🌹
