Fall in Love, Lust, or Loss

maydanae

Every time I fall in love,
                                              lust, or
                                                loss

I think "that's all"... the gall

Rampant thoughts begin to race the track

They lap; I clap,
                          and make my "winning" bets

While those damn butterflies plot a heart attack

Wings flap; I snap,
                          then swear off gambling

While lighting up a cigarette

I'm a lover, not a liar: I don't even smoke

The occasional blunt, sure, but I just felt like I needed to rhyme

In time,
        in time,
      good time,
I'll stop telling myself the fabricated facts

From love, the fall of Her before

It always ends with forevermore;
                                                      the irony

To let in love, the type that lasts

I'll never know if I never ask

Knock knock

Who's there?

It's you, my dear,
                                                if you listen close

Past twenty-two I've closed the door

No more, no more

I love myself far more than that

I love to love far more than that

I'll let in real love much more, in fact

The love, lust, and loss have guided me

I take the re(a)d as confirmation.

  • Comment from author about the poem: I made the entire poem red, then changed my mind. No matter what I do, though, the red part won't turn black... I take it as a sign
