it’s good to know
we are so very
post
colonial
i almost thought—
heaven me—it could be
bullshitonial.
what would i know?
i’m just booking my
american itinerant plan
to travel to the British
virgin islands.
owned by those
native hands.
on my way home,
i think i might go
to US Puerto Rico—
not sure, I’ll let you know—
a piña colada cocktail
and some hawaiian retail.
when i get home,
i will lay down my head
and sleep well in my
post
colonial
bed.

- Comment from author about the poem: Let's be honest, we're not postcolonial as much as colonially evolved. Instead, let’s stop being postbullshitonial. Part of the Truth, Applied collection.
