Tune: St Asaph [Series: Hymns to Saints Tunes 8]
('Through the night of doubt and sorrow')
Psalm 89 v.8-16
*************
O Lord God of hosts, who is strong
Like your power all day long?
Or who has faithfulness like you?
It surrounds you, trusty, true
You rule the raging of the sea
When the waves arise, Peace be
Is your word to them, then they still
Cause no more damage or ill
You have broken the enemy
In pieces, as slain they be
You have scattered them with your strong
Arm, e'en all the evil throng
The heavens are yours, the earth too
The world you founded anew
North, south, east, west, you created
Them, not by whim, not fated
Tabor and Hermon, mounts, they shall
Rejoice in your name, they tell
Of your greatness, your mighty arm
Strong your hand, keeps us from harm
Justice, judgement, the foundation
Of your throne's habitation
Where you dwell and reign for ever
Losing strength, power never
Mercy and truth shall go before
Your face, loving kindness sure
Blessed is the people, they that know
The joyful sound, your name, so
They shall walk, O Lord, in your light
Of your countenance, paths bright
In your name rejoice all the day
Righteous lifted in your way
