Tune: The Supreme Sacrifice

('O valiant hearts')

Psalm 90 v.10-14 and v.17

**********

The days of our years, they threescore and ten (70)

Or if having strength, reaching fourscore then (80)

Yet is their boast only labour, sorrow

We soon cut off, we fly away, we know

Who knows the power of your anger, Lord?

As your far be, so your wrath, true your word

Measure of reverent fear it equals

Measure of your wrath, help us hear you calls

So teach us to number our days, that we

Gain a heart of wisdom, not foolishly

Return, O Lord, to us, how long it be?

Have compassion on us, your servants see

O satisfy us early with mercy

That we may rejoice, glad all our days be

Let your beauty be upon us, stablish

The work of our hands, prosperity this

  • Comment from author about the poem: A hymn-poem in 10.10.10.10. Maybe not entirely a Remembrance poem, but some remembrance hymns draw on parts of this Psalm.
