Shall I tell you of the time
That I called another guy
By a friend of his same name,
'Cuz I thought I knew his face?!
It surprised him much indeed,
For he ne'erfore had seen me,
But had called me by my name....
And I CHANCED to do the same!!
I was at a pop machine,
And had bent down on my knee
To retrieve my purchased drink;
When he did a friendly thing.....
Taking out my I.D. card
(Which was also my bank card)
That I'd left in the machine,
Just so absentmindedly....
He then offered it to me
When I rose up with my drink;
With, "Here's your card, Jennifer!"
I surprised but unperturbed,
(Who was this that knew MY name?
And where's my friend that with me came?
Do I know him? Oh yes, sure!
He's that one tall guy from church!?)
Said,"Why, thank you, Chris," with ease...
But he looked back shocked at me!
"How'd you know MY name?" exclaimed,
"How'd I what? ....Oh NO!"(mistake!!!)
"I thought you....oh, NO! I don't"---
Grabbing my card I did bolt!
Round the nearest corner fled,
To stop and laugh next with my friend.
What in the world had I done?
Indeed, what ho! and oh, what fun....
To remember now and laugh
At coincidence and chance....
For I'd called HIM by his name,
Though I'd ne'erfore seen his face!
(And a long time too did I
Wonder, how had he known MINE? !)

- Comment from author about the poem: How's this for coincidence? Okay, so I must be really dumb......it really did happen, and I only recently figured out how he knew MY name....ah, slow? Hahaha.

These things happen in real life too don't they .. Call it luck, chance, coincidence or karma it matters not one jot .. it happens .. can't wait until it happens to me tho' ..
It did occur...25 years ago. My friend was waiting in the wings until I startled everyone by calling him by his name to everyone's shock. We scampered off as fast as we could and hid in the nearby bookstore, hoping neither he nor his upperclassmen peers with him would find us two little freshmen after I pulled off that stunt. And they didn't.
Thank you so very much for your kind comment!
