It's me again---surprise, surprise!
Is't recognition in your eyes?
You thought you lost me?---gone for good?
But I've showed up---you knew I would.
You wrote and wrote, but no replies...
'Twas just too rude, I realize;
So you gave up? I hope's not true!?
Without your lines what will I do??
A month its been since you said "Hi";
I miss your poems---your friendly lines.
It's all my fault, I know, I know;
I should've written long ago.
But wait----but wait!---a compromise?
For here I am with my own lines.
You will write back; I know 'tis so---
Or have I fallen far too low?
I did not write---I'll tell you why:
Although I tried, I could not rhyme;
So I was silent, indisposed...
You waited long-----that's how it goes.
That's how our friendship's been designed----
You'll often write with fewer lines,
And later I'll reply with more,
So amply making up with yours.
And I admit I asked for rhymes,
Which you have giv'n 'most all th'times;
In this my downfall's been secured----
For lack of this I've sent no word.
Yet pray, my friend, all rhymes aside,
Will you forgive me one more time?
Here write I now and say, "Hello"
And, "Are you fine? How does all go?"
You ne'er believed I'd never write,
And six months late t'ain't much surprise;
So off again with paper in tow,
We'll rhyme'N'write, that's how we go.
Surprise, surprise! Late come my "Hi's",
There's recognition in your eyes---
I'm back again with paper 'N'pen,
To write and rhyme with you again!

- Comment from author about the poem: Some years back I had a penpal that would exchange poetry w/me, in addition to our letters, and as I am always a tardy one to answer, I ended up writing this.... It is the first in a series of poems on penpaling by the notorious Mistress of Tardiness herself!

Another epic .. not exactly fresh from the pen according to the date stamp .. but you wouldn't know it .. I used to have a pen friend too back in the day .. until life got in the way and then she went n Tippexed me out (that's English for correction fluid) by the way .. thanks for this little bit of self-disclosure Jennifer .. This poem was first scribbled in my pages, then carefully written on the pages of my return letter to her [finally!]. And when I joined the online worldwide community of fellow artists, poets and poetesses, I shared the poem originally written to her with the world. I believe it may also be read aloud on YouTube in one of two performances recorded and put online from our then local poetry group in Elgin Illinois. Let me knew whether you'd like that link.
After that, thank you so, so very much for your approbation and charming comment, dear friend.
I would like to have that link if it is still available .. I'm a nosey beggar .. 👍

Hmm... looks as if the facilitator chose a shorter poem of mine...at least if this poem above isn't read aloud by me in this recording and the occasion shown, you've a sight of yours truly 5.5 years ago reading me ain work. Enjoy.
Argh. 6.5 years ago. I stand corrected.
