Solitary Tree

Solitary Tree
-by MVB

I am the solitary tree
Up on the hill by world forgotten
I am the thought never to be
Escaping dreams never begotten

I am the time that never was
Only a figment in your mind
I’m the eternal wannabe
Who tried in vain and now resigned

I am the wind that passed in haste
And left no sign to ever be
I’m the illusion that you chased
Only to find an empty sea

I am the lost that’s never found
In places no one ever looks
I am the silence of the night
Still crying softly in the nooks

I am the silent words of many
Who courage never had enough
I am the hidden tears of any
Whose face will never see a laugh

I am the heart that has stopped beating
Too tired of so much exertion
I am the soul that stopped believing
And left this world with calm desertion

I am the tranquil storm that passed
Still void of any true emotion
I am the time that goes too fast
And roams around with no devotion

I am the sadness in your eyes
The broken heart that you once stole
I am the voiceless, longing cries
The lost and long departed soul

No one will ever understand
And no one cares what will be
I am the always vagrant man
I am the solitary tree

Fascinating...and for all it is sad, yet even so, delightful! Your symbolism/metaphors(?) carried my imagination to all these sorrowful images and scenes so like a photo album or movie, or better yet, a slow, wandering trek through all the lonely, forgotten places to just sit, mournfully alone, contemplating sorrowfully/hopelessly. Your image of the tree is of course only too fitting. All the images you conjured up were mournfully delightful to contemplate. Maybe it is like the mournful cry of the oboe which I so dearly love, but I enjoyed this poem very much.
