Anarkali in Motion

Leonard Dabydeen

Here she comes

with a sparkle in my mujra

feet dazzling in the lilting dance

Anarkali, Anarkali

so promegranate in beauty

makes my heart trumpet

to watch her move

in such enthral

with eyes lovelier

than trestles of the Himalayas

now my heart is pulsating

to the rhythm of her jingles

her long-flowing dark hair

perfumes my excitement

with every instrument

I am Prince Saleem

and my charisma of noble blood

bows in true love for her

and tonight is the night

I present her to you

Anarkali in motion.

Wow. Very fascinating, and rather intriguing....delightful romantic piece! Beautiful in the delightful loving description of "her"....sweet in the ecstasy painted throughout. I quite enjoyed this! Who/what it Anarkali?

Thank you very much for the explanation and the link...I appreciated it. I like your poem here better than the girl's that you recommended, but the story behind it was interesting. Thanks again!
