The Cockroach

Zojinjo

In the corner I am lurking.

Through the shadows I am coming.

It is evil I am hoarding.

On my darkest deed I'm working.

Hear my warning:

The only one I'm telling.

Your home is what I'm tearing,

your shame is what I'm wearing.

I'm the cockroach, here me roaring!

  • Comment from author about the poem: This poem is about a real life experience I had. I was cleaning the living room, when all of a sudden I saw a cockroach running from underneath a chest I was lifting. I followed it for a bit as it ran to a corner. It sat there and looked at me, making a little noise. (I could hear it very, very softly.) It made me thinking about cockroaches, and that they could be in my house, planning on ravaging it, leaving me in shame when guests come. I mean, if you see them, you suspect evil lurking within them right? Mabey this one gave me a warning... I should think about moving...

The image made me gasp in horror when it burst on my sight, and the poem following it was nefarious...delightfully nasty and chilling!! Perfect! Excellent! And your "author's comment" following up on it was too amusing. Absolutely beautifully executed! As for cockroaches, I was terrorized by the threat of them while living awhile in Florida some years agone, though I never recall having to face them...interesting to be faced with contemplation of them now.
