Belated Greetings are My Forte.....

Your birthday came and went this year, 
(As usually it does) : 
And I remembered in advance, 
(Guess that does not mean much) : 
I thought of you, for all thoughts count, 
("They" say they mean a ton!) : 
And even tried to tell you so, 
(But you were "out to lunch") : 
I hope you HAD a happy day, 
(Though now it is quite gone) : 
And if I take a few months more....
Another one will come! 
And IF I finish this by then, 
Maybe since it is done, 
....I'll fin' lly send it off!

The "Ides" of March, they came....and went.
No card from me did you then get.
St. Patrick's Day, though two days late....
Could be good time to wish 'twas great? ! 
Then...Happy Birthday...two days late! 
(To be on time would have been great!)

As if I could forget the day! 
Belated greetings such are known, 
Nor ought excuse for them I own.
But Happy Birthday anyways.....

Happy Birthday...s'prise, surprise! 
Is disappointment in your eyes? 
Why'd I ever wait this long, 
To sing your "Happy Birthday" song? 
Well, think of it a funny way: 
A "Happy Birthday" now delayed
Can spread the fun t'another day! 
So...Have a Happy Birthday....(late) !

A birthday card now SIX months late??! 
And I did not forget "your" day....
But you'd too busy be to care: 
(I thought) ...so I this tardy dared.
? ? ? 

I had it ready on that day....
Your birthday present now so late.
But birthday card with it's own rhyme, 
Took more than it's own share of time.
And so your birthday came....and went.
Yet still your present sat UNsent.
And time ticks steady on its way: 
And ev'ry day this is more late......
