Innocence of Love

Emi

My heart dances merrily around

Always listening for the beautiful sound

Your voice; heartwarming and sweet

My heart now is completely replete

Thinking constantly of only your face

And the image of our hands interlaced

Every smile you smile takes my breath away

My heart melts with every ounce of love you convey

But hellos must always turn to goodbyes

And my laughter only turns into dejected sighs

How will things ever again be the same as before?

Return to me my happiness, I desperately implore

Misunderstandings followed by heartbreak

The happiness and joy they always take

Falling into the darkness and despair

Heart, life, and soul falling into disrepair

When love is forgotten and neglected

And sorrow and depression are all I’ve collected

And the only affection I will receive is from above

It continues on forever and always; the innocence of love

  • Comment from author about the poem: I got the phrase "Innocence of Love" from Act II, scene iv of Twelfth Night from Shakespeare. The line kind of stood out for me and I wanted to write a poem about it.
