Jangan kau meratap menghiba (Don't you wail and cry)
Jangan bermuram durja (Don't pull that long face)
Apa dikenang kisah duka (What's the use of reminiscing)
Air mata tak bermakna (Shedding tears now is futile)
Kenapa dulu kau tak kaji (Why didn't you think before you act)
Kau turut kata hati (You persisted on your obscession)
Nasihat daku kau Persia (My advice fell on deaf ears)
Menyesal tak berguna (No use regretting now!)
Bercahaya bukan intan (What glitters aren't always diamonds)
Manisan bukan madu (The sweet aren't always honey)
Tak semua keemasan (Not everything is gold)
Cumbuan kerap palsu (Kisses are frequently decieving)
Ingatlah segala pesanan (Remember this advice)
Awaslah dan waspada (Watch out and be careful)
Masa depan mu kau fikirkan (Think of your future)
Menyesal tak berguna (No use regretting now)
Bercahaya bukan intan (What glitters aren't always diamonds)
Manisan bukan madu (The sweet aren't always honey)
Tak semua keemasan (Not everything is gold)
Cumbuan kerap palsu (Kisses are frequently decieving)
Ingatlah segala pesanan (Remember this advice)
Awaslah dan waspada (Watch out and be careful)
Masa depan mu kau fikirkan (Think of your future)
Menyesal tak berguna (No use regretting now!)
Masa depan mu kau fikirkan (Think of your future)
Menyesal tak berguna (No use regretting now!)

- Comment from author about the poem: This song was written by my late father Hashim Abdullah (AKA Hashim BA) and sung by his close friend Jaafar Osman and released as a single in the 50's. It is now classified among the 'Great Classical Malay Songs" and is still sung in classical singing competitions here in Malaysia. I have taken the liberty of translating it line by line for my friends in Poems and Poetry.com

Thank you very much for taking the time to translate it for those of us (like me) who are not bilingual. Excellent reminder with the usual wisdom that "all that glitters is NOT gold", and if only we might wisely heed to think farther than the present passionate moment to the inevitable unknown future we'd well be saved some grief. I liked it.
