Madam Summer # I

Cheeky Missy

(sonnet # CLXV)

CLXV

Bold summer's countenance, while not so fair
As spring's, who lightly waltzes in with grace
And capers, traipsing sweetly does efface
Bare winter's death with softly blushing air
Quite delicate, arrays so gaily ere
Full bloom yields and 'til passion's fire displace,
With heat replacing blossoms, to embrace
Half tender, fierce, is beautiful with flair.
Cicadas' brazen cry befits her style
And saucy call, though butterflies bestow
A gentle touch; her flow'rs alike e'er smile
And brighten: lace and lilies vibrant glow,
Displays in vivid colour, they beguile;
While she quite tangoes in her racous show.

  • Comment from author about the poem: Riding to and fro, in the heat through the countryside, reveling in the roadsides and fields lovely arrays, seemed irresistible for a tribute, which a single sonnet did NOT succeed at, hence a pair of sonnets! and this time I DID use the last line of the first to begin the second!
