(sonnet # CCVII)
CCVII
Frogs serenade fair gloaming's sweet Adieu;
Quite loudly too, in unison, as night's
Soft sable veil dims ev'rywhere and writes
Another perfect August day off through
Their charms with crickets' cheerful treble. Dew
Rests lightly on cool mown grass and delights,
While ling'ring pink flush paired with gold lights
Horizon's lip, and stars play peek-a-boo
With faint grey phantom clouds. It was a day
Of waning summer's pleasures: barefoot ease
And golden glow on verdant green; display
O'erwhelming in its beauty; carefree tease
And melodies; the harvest's labours; yea,
A lovely one now done, e'er laced by these.

- Comment from author about the poem: Another beautiful late summer day, delightfully glorious and too lovely! Walking out in twilight's waning shades to frogs' noisy chorusing and crickets' shrill chirping, I attempted a tribute, hopefully in the style of Charles (Tennyson) Turner.
