Summer's Fading Elegy

Cheeky Missy

(sonnet # CCXXIV)

The days are fading swiftly now which held
The year's chief pleasures: subtly thriving air
Alive forever, breathing in the fair
Sweet zephyrs gently plying the leaves compelled
To welcome restless rustling, (sometimes swelled
To steady chatter); whilst the crickets' flair,
Frogs' underlying song, music ev'rywhere
Lent ambience and cheer: How surely quelled!
Ere we're aware, how suddenly nigh gone!
For chill the indoor silence presses near
Again its warmer cheerless cause, as drawn
To shut the nat'ral world out with its dear
And precious thrilling calls, the greyer dawn
Of cooler days screams ringing in the ear.

  • Comment from author about the poem: Now that open windows' subtly thrilling lively air is fast becoming a rare pleasure, for genuine grief I tried my hand at an elegy. Here was last year's tribute: http://www.poems-and-poetry.com/show-poem-51534

Thank you. It is, mayhap, more comprehensible to non-sonnet readers as it was first rendered last year.
