Dragging My Feet...

Cheeky Missy

(sonnet # CCLIII)

I'm dragging my feet on bidding Adieu.
Of people and things, the former remains
The harder to do. Is't love that detains
Whenever a "farewell" seems to pursue?
Of items and scen'ry treasured there's few
Can quite compare with folks for sorest pains,
'Cept pets, who nigh surpass in those deep strains.
Aye, love's the factor that makes all so blue.
Affection constrains when saying our Goodbyes;
One-sided mayhap is lighter than shared;
And yet quite enough to rend one with cries
Too heavy sometimes to e'er be repaired.
Now too reluctant, with tears in my eyes,
How can I just say it? I'm not prepared.

  • Comment from author about the poem: Also "Sad." Ah, who doesn't know what this is like? I was once seriously told by a beloved, that she could not bare it, so would say her goodbyes to me from her house, instead of accompanying me to the ferry. Faced with a parting I could not stand recently, I began this in all earnestness. Unable to finish it then, I finally did now. This happens to make something like an 8th sonnet to the series on that failed romance.
