A Taste of Spring!

Cheeky Missy

(CCXLII)

Dear Spring! I hear thy dulcet notes again!
Though summer seemed quite fled, yet now the clear
Sweet tones that subtly woo the soul with cheer
Few can resist lilt gaily. Just as when
Thy fair demise to her warmth laced life, then
The Robins call and scold, with others, near
In mem'ries' eye to carefree times; though sere
Sights now appear, since harvest's here in glen
And field. Autumn's colours now usurp her
Green verdure where thy harmonies would grace
The scene. And yet its chilly harbinger
Of winter's death seems gone to her embrace,
As warming trends make thy 'loved music stir
The soul afresh to lighter strains a space.

  • Comment from author about the poem: What a sweet surprise met me that first Monday morning of October as the warming trend set in, with promises of summer temperatures by the week's end--Robins! And other loved voices from early summer! La, but trying a sonnet in tribute was rugged going to say the least. (What's my problem?)
