Painting Autumn...

Cheeky Missy

(sonnet # CCXLIII)

The artist grabbed his palette and began
To splash green summer's canvas with delight:
A swath of vivid orange here, vibrant bright
Gold smatters there, vermilion trim that ran
In delicate and bold splotches; his plan
To make amends for carefree loss was quite
Successful where rich blue skies graced the sight;
Though harvests had more than a touch of tan.
Maroons and varied colours' hues with care
Aye, expert skill were brushed on fringes or
Across tree clusters where th'effect would wear
The greatest, as the world transformed thus wore
As lively aspect in its brilliant flair
'Fore death, as spring's new life that all adore.

  • Comment from author about the poem: Riding to and from work through the fall countryside that afternoon was happily inspiring (and a great way of helping pass the time when you are fatigued). The midwestern US is a riot, more so the northern portion. Here's what my section looked like.....
