The Night's Light

StuckInSweetSurrender

As the night falls and the world slips into a slumber,
I stare out my window and forever wonder.

I ponder my day,
I ponder my night.
But mostly, I ponder that light.

A single light shining through nature's darkness.
A light so out of place in a night so starless.

Never too dreary,
Never too glaring.
But always there, awaiting my staring.

What could it mean? What does it show?
Why is it here? How am I supposed to know?

The light is always missing if you spend your day smiling.
Only appearing when times are too much to handle.
Only when my life leaves me dismantled.

As I take the time to watch it's flicker,
I sigh and swallow the last of my liquor.

Is the light here for me?
Or here for another?
Does it come to just watch me suffer?

Suffer? It can't be here to see so much pain.
Not when it helps me to cope,
Serving as my only sign of hope.

As time passes on and my smile begins to return,
It's true purpose is what I learn.

Light is here to give me strength.
The symbol of my recovery.
The only help to my self discovery.

Slowly the light begins to fade away,
Ready to be back to help another day.
