BRIAN & ANGELA

G RAND NATIONAL - Greatest steeple chase in the World !

R ule The World - 50 : 1 outsider - stormed ahead in an

A wesome last furlong to take the 2016 National trophy !

N ineteen years old was his Jockey - DAVID MULLINS.

D on't ever underestimate the skill and drive of youth !

N o other Horse Race is quite like the Grand National

A intree a suburb of Liverpool is the venue. As a young

T eenager  I once stood near Beechers Brook to see the

I ncredible agility of the horses as they landed teetering

O n their front two legs regaining composure then over the

N ext one with the grace of a bird. The blessing is this year

A ll the fallers survived Horses and Jockeys ! So we can all

L ook forward to 2017 - more thrill and less spills - AMEN !

  • Comment from author about the poem: There are always critics of the Grand National who say it is too tough and too cruel. The interesting thing yesterday was the two loose horses who led the race in the second circuit - loved to jump the fences even without the Jockey. Maybe next year we should just let the horses run on their own - OK. To fully understand the challenge and beauty of the Grand National you have to see it for yourself - awesome ! BRIAN
