Life and Death go Hand in Hand

The Poet

Lives can change in the blink of an eye.

A Boy tries to save the dog and a family begins to cry.

You can have one of the worst of days to the best the next.

From staying in and relaxing to going out and getting no rest.

While walking down a dirt road on a patrol.

A bright flash of light and you've sold your soul.

They ship what's left of you back to your family.

You're lowered into the ground and that's the last they'll ever see.

Not too far down on the street of sorrow.

A story of a boy, a dog, and a car happens tomorrow.

The boy and the dog playing in the backyard.

The fence door opens and everyone is playing their cards.

Bets are placed and a third player joins.

The dog folds and the boy play all his coins.

The dog walks in while the boy has vanished.

Snapback to reality and a car has crashed.

A boy’s on the ground no coins in his pocket.

The third player has won, but at what price for his eye sockets.

But maybe we can try and bring about a u-turn.

Turn off the streets of sorrow and burn.

Let's examine the other edge of the sword.

But this would be all on your own accord.

The night before you're lying in your bed.

Thinking about the future, and your demons screaming in your head.

You want to end it, but something in your head says “do not.”

The next day you go out and find a person who gets rid of those thoughts.

You never imagined life would turn that quick.

We find those little things in life that make us tick.

From one simple little hug, to someone pulling you off that roof.

From being best of friends to becoming aloof.

Life can switch from black to white.

By keeping it good, keep the good in sight.

But always remember to take the good with the bad.

Always know that life and death go hand in hand.

WELCOME ! A very powerful first poem full of rhyme and rhythm. I love rhyming couplets they make a poem easy to read and recite. The topic although stark is also very true. Each day we share black & white - life & death. The only way we can survive and make sense of the World is by being stoical and taking the GOOD with the BAD ! Thanks for sharing - BRIAN
