Dear Mother

ccrees

Dear Mother it's been, such an awful long while,

Since I came home to see you, since we last shared a smile,

I assure you I'm well, and I'm doing alright,

I'm just a bit busy, but I'll call you tonight.

Dear Mother I'm sorry, I'm in a terrible haste,

There's so much to do, not a second to waste,

I promise I'll visit, just as soon as a find,

Some time to myself, so we can sit and unwind.

Dear Mother I said, I will call you tomorrow,

I'm engaged at the moment, with no minutes to borrow,

But I promise you that, when I get a few hours,

I will sit and I'll listen, about the cats and the flowers.

Dear Mother I'm sorry, I've escaped you again,

I have plans at the moment, could I call you in ten?

Oh wait just a second, I said I would show,

Up for drinks with my friends, I really must go.

Dear Mother I heard, you're not feeling too well,

They say it's the flu, I guess time will tell,

I should be available, in a week, two or three,

For a visit back home, but I shall have to see.

Dear Mother today, I heard such terrible news,

You passed by this morning, without a moment to lose,

You left oh so quickly, did I do something wrong?

I have not seen your face, in ever so long.

Dear Mother this morning, I said my final goodbyes,

Not over the phone, nor looking into your eyes,

I spoke at a box, which I once knew as you,

It all felt so final, pray tell me it's not true.

Dear Mother it's been, such an awful long while,

Since I heard your sweet voice, or saw your warm smile,

Just give me one chance, and I'll give you my all,

Because this world without phone calls, feels ever so small.

WELCOME CC - Thanks you for an awesome poem straight from your heart. I love the structure (quatrains and rhyming couplets) which made it easy thought painful to read. It rang so very very true. In these days of mobiles and skype and internet there is no reason not to keep close to our Mums & Dads and other Family 24/7. We are all guilty of procrastination in this area. We should never be too busy to call our Folks ! Your heart rending poem (especially the last three verses) will i am sure jog some consciences ! Thanks for having the heart to share - BRIAN
