Green eyes and that flannel shirt
Strong hands that would never hurt
Kind words and a gentle touch
Until it all becomes too much
He says “I love you” again and again
You say he’s “one of the good men”
But words are futile little tools
That change the story and break the rules
For you know what’s real
You know how it feels
To hide the fear
Whenever he comes near
To flinch when he raises his fist
And to constantly insist
That you’re just on edge
Not standing on a harsh ledge
“He doesn’t mean to hurt me”
“You don’t know; you don’t see”
“He’s been through a lot”
“It’s my fault we fought”
But I do know; I know it all
I know how you look pinned to a wall
I know you’re not happy, I’ve seen that look
And I know that your joy is exactly what he took
But I also know your strength
And the never-ending length
Of your bright, fiery spirit
So powerful, even he would fear it

Ohhhhhhhh Friend - The pain some Men inflict on beautiful Ladies sometimes makes me wish I could swap gender. It makes me ashamed to be a Man. Your poem (about a horrible Man) has a beautiful structure. Rhyming couplets packed in neat quatrains. The content describes what millions of Ladies endure every day -- and yet these Ladies make excuses for their Man - so so sad ! Love the optimism in your last stanza ! But I also know your strength ~ And the never ending length ~ Of your bright fiery spirit ~ So powerful even he would fear it. Thanks for caring and sharing - BRIAN
Thank you Brian!
