Among the vast terrain
of willow and spruce
with background of
snow-capped mountains,
eagles soar majestically,
joining clouds in unison,
while sunshine and blue sky
welcome all to nature's
living portrait of beauty.
Scattered throughout the tundra,
and along the ribbon of roadways,
the prickly wild rose grows,
colors of yellow, pink and rose
among the brush struggling
to endure the short Alaskan summer,
trying to postpone the oncoming
harshness of winter with their
profuse display of color.

AWESOME SS - As you say people who have never visited ALASKA are amazed at its beauty ! From the UK we generally visit by Cruise Ship up the inside passage and that is one of the best ways to experience her ! Beautiful Picture and an elegant poem in terms of its structure and content. Thanks for highlighting the beauty and essence of Alaska - UNFORGETTABLE Yours BRIAN
Brian, your lovely response on my poem, "Alaskan Portrait" made my cup of coffee and bagel with cream cheese taste so much better this morning. Did you travel to southeast Alaska via the inside passage? I lived in Sitka, Alaska for a short time before moving to Anchorage many years ago. Thank you for your encouraging comment.

Yes SONIA I appreciate that the inside passage and even Tracy'e Arm oly give us a tiny glimpse of your vast State that is EIGHT times bigger than the whole of the UK and even twice as big as TEXAS ! We fly into SEATTLE and then pick up the Cruiser. We went to JUNEAU and other towns (including SITKA) and of course the GLAZIER ! It was really amazing. I have seen pictures of Anchorage and spoken with people from there it seems lovely. WOW coffee and a bagel with cream chesse "Food of the Gods" pleased my comment added zest - Yours BRIAN
