You Promised Me

AwkwardDebaterGirl

You promised me love

Always us against the world

Hands interlaced

You promised me a future

A white picket fence lined with daisies

Curtains open allowing in sunshine

You promised me truth

Truth is your promises shattered on the floor

Not able to last the night

You promised me the end

The end is near dear

There is nothing to do but stand in shock

You promised me love

The door swings forever shut

Love means nothing to someone who lies to themselves

HI ADG ~ Thanks for another very elegant poem. All Men are good at making promises only a few (like me !) actually fulfil them ! Love the structure of your poem neat triplets each one heralding a new promise ! Love ~ Future ~ Truth ~ the End ~ and finally love again. Your final line is very cutting "Love means nothing to someone who lies to themselves" OUCH ! Thanks for sharing ~ Yours BRIAN
