The storm

Daniel

As I sit still and close my eyes
And free myself from the storm
I hear the voices that were silent to me
The ones that went unnoticed and ignored

They are memories of simpler days
Pictures of faces long since gone
They are the words they spoke to me
When life got hard and I was lost

They are memories of my youth
And of the games that I once played
Of the  hopes and the innocence
That over time did fade

They are the memories of newer times
And of the loved ones in my life
That have guided me and gave me strength
When I felt that I had lost all fight

But as the voices fade unto a whisper
And though the moment was short lived
It gives me the strength to fight once more
Because the storm can never win

I often sit in the silence and stillness of thought Daniel, and like you go over the yesterdays and compare to present days..
I weep sometimes from the missing of some that made my life special, the storms I have gone through and from the happy times.
Like you I get strength from what has been which gives me hope for what lies ahead. I can so relate to your words. I always listen to the voice that comes across in reading poetry, and yours was gentle. the imagery clear and all made for easy reading....... Bravo...Dee
Because the storm always wins ?
    only if you let it...smile.

To mean the storm is life and the everyday clutter that seems to take over, and if you let it drown out all the good. Thank you again for the great comment.

If you shut your door to errors (storms)
If you shut your door to different people (opinions)
Then you shut your door to wisdom and truth.
    Welcome storms...

Thanks DANIEL ~ This is a universal poem and a universal experience. I'm glad i live in the UK and not Florida because we get four distinct seasons. Sometimes all four in the same day ! I'm old enough (33) to know that the CALM both precedes and follows the storm. All storms are just an interlude to teach us lessons but they all (in the end) pass. The same is true of all the vicissitudes of life. Winter is very important in the UK but in my experience it has always bee followed by SPRING the most perfect season for Love and Life. So the calm after the fiercest of storms can revive our soul until the next one. In my experience the Storm often knocks me down but it has never (yet) knocked me out ! Thanks for sharing ~ BRIAN
