Dark, Dark Place

SheWasTheSun

How did I get back here?

This dark, dark place

It’s been years and years

Since I’ve seen this face

Staring back through the looking glass

Nearly hidden behind shadows

And tears from moments passed

As the deep sadness rattles

My bones and my thoughts

On the door I pound

This war is one I’ve already fought

I don’t recall the answer I found

Last time I made it out alive

But I was younger then

Brave enough to dive

Headfirst without thinking when

I saw the slightest sliver of light

But now I stay here on my knees

In the corner, I can’t fight

I’m shouting, begging, please

But this time there’s no knob

There’s not even a door

As I wail and I sob

And sink to the floor

I wonder aloud

Was it ever just a phase?

I really wonder how

I got back to this dark, dark place
