He met you,
You guys became friends,
You guys fell in love,
He learned all of your flaws,
Weaknesses,
Turn on's and off's,
Your secrets,
Your scars,
Everything,
He changed you in appearance,
and in so many different ways,
Your friends noticed that you have changed,
Your friends told you he wasn't good for you,
You knew that,
Your friends wanted you to get help,
He beat you when he found out your friends knew,
Told you that you were a piece of shit,
He called you names,
He was nice the day after he beat you,
He beat you even more,
He put you down,
Then he left,
He broke you,
You went back and gave him another chance,
He broke you even more,
You lost your self confidence,
You lost your self esteem,
He left you again,
You started to cut again,
You became suicidal again,
You tried to kill yourself,
You succeeded,
He didn't want that that to happen,
He just wanted to make you feel pain,
He just wanted to feel powerful,
He wanted to control you,
He wanted to change you,
He wanted you to be there forever,
He was put on trial for first degree murder,
He was sentenced life in prison,
Your funeral wasn't good,
Your parents broke down,
Your friends started to cut,
and you,
You were just in a hole after everything you had been through.
This is the life of a person who is with an abuser.

- Comment from author about the poem: This poem has made some impact on me. I had written it while I was in an abusive relationship with my ex. My mother and sister have had a past with abusers. So, I thought I would finally post it. Thank you so much.

Thanks for posting this important poem. I know it must not be easy to share such a painful part of your life but it will help others heal. Very well written.
Thank you so much for that, it really wasn't easy to post this. But I felt like that it was such a good poem I should have.
Thanks for sharing KY ~ Very painful and cathartic ! I have councelled students in abusive relation ships (often with older men or men ~ they share their girls around). You mention all the classic symptoms on his part ~ knowledge ~ control ~ abuse ~ rejection ~ love on and off ~ leading in many cases to suicide which abusers hate beacause it deprives them of their Rag Doll. For many of the degraded and abused death is the only answer. Such men should be castrated and then electrocuted ~ they are serial abusers ! I am pleased you survived KY ~ thinking of you and praying for you ~ Your Friend BRIAN
I was in an abusive relationship for 8 months and all he ever did was hit me, rape me, and call me names so I love this poem because I can absolutely relate to it.
