FAVORITE BIRD ~ The feathered variety.

BRIAN & ANGELA

ROBIN REDBREAST in the Holly Tree
Singing out your heart for me.
How I love your sassy looks
Pictures in the Bird Life books.
In my Mums back yard ~ Im jobbin
Robin hops in bob bob bobbin
In my Mums back yards a nest
Home to Mr & Mrs Redbreast.
All the chicks go cheap ~ cheap ~ cheap
Spoil my sietsa ~ Im asleep !
When its Christmas in the snow
My friend Robins on the go
Pulling worms from the frozen sod
To feed his brood by the grace of GOD
He has a place on my Christmas Cake
And the Christmas Cards ~ that I love to make
Every card depicts a ROBIN
Preenin ~ dreamin ~ bob bob bobbin !

Thorn bird
I looked at the window
She was not there
Then suddenly magically
She did appear
She fluttered about
Then she was still
A beautiful thorn bird
On my window sill
I knew not of the thorn bird
Then somehow, I did
Her silhouette framed
In the old window grid
Her dark eyes were, knowing
With a sparkling shine
She was a free bird
She gave me a sign
I will always remember
That glorious day
The thorn bird made me happy
Then she just flew… away!

Bluejays feeding at the tree.
Eating up the seeds
I have left for you
Favorite bird you are
Blue feathers
Rather I see you
At the feeders
Or perched on the fence
Just the sight of you
puts a smile on my face

C UCKOO IN THE NEST stealing a place
U surping the rest always in your face
C uckoos lay their eggs in another birds nest
K icking out eggs to give their egg the best
O h what A "Tragedy of Birdland" coping to feed
O h what A "Travesty of Birdland" that cuckoos need !
I see a similar usurping in the World of Men
N o one has security ~ poor pushed out again
T yrants who bulldoze the house of the poor
H ovels destroyed to make way make way for more
E xtra Offices Banks for their wealth to spore
N ests should be places for birdies to grow
E veryone safe ~ not for cuckoos you know
S o if you see one get rid of the pest ~ please
T ell the CUCKOO ~ GET OUT OF MY NEST !

Raven, dark so sleek as night,
perched upon the lone street light,
watching, watching with dark eyes
shadows slipping up like spies.
Raven, raven with your knowing looks
no wonder you’re immortalized in books!
The caw and cry of your native tongue
can make the strongest come undone.
A group of you we call a murder
But alas, I am no faithful birder.

  • Comment from author about the poem: There are a great variety of Birds in the UK and we notice their absence in many countries when we travel abroad. I think it due to our four distinct seasons and the fact that we feed and pamper our "wild animals" just as well as we feed our pets. We have a ROYAL Society to protect Birds and Animals but only a NATIONAL one to protect Children ! I would love to read a poem about you favorite species of BIRD ~ There are twelve stanzas available ~ eleven still vacant. Thanks for contributing ~ Love BRIAN XOX
