Thoughts & Words (a sonnet)

rrodriguez

Thoughts ignite the fire

Words certainly burn

Thoughts & words are flames

That kindle the pyre

Enigmatic in its nature

Fire is treacherous & friend

The pen can be a flame

And the mind a forest on fire

Both can destroy the human soul

Indeed! but of this be certain,

Thoughts ignite the soul to greatness

Words can inflame courageous deeds

Thoughts and words are fire

Burning in the poet’s repertoire.

  • Comment from author about the poem: This poem was inspired as a result of a conversation I had with one of our poets, Kurt Philip Behm. I thought about what he said and I got an idea to write a poem about thoughts and words. This is the result. Enjoy and comments are welcome.

I love it. It inspired this ... (Hope you don't mind)

    Thoughts ignite and feelings stir
    Words simmering still to warm
Unspoken sparks left in the night
Kindling a pyre still to burn

    Delphian in its natural form
    The smoke a treacherous friend
The ink to inflame, as lies cremate
The mind, a forest on fire

Their heat can destroy the human soul
But of this one thing be sure
One thought set free from a frozen dawn,
—burns intrepid in the poets hand

The verse now stacked and dried of doubt
    Its ignition up to you
As unlit it waits for your next breath
    To burn the spoken air

Wow! I certainly like this... one thought ignites another; words inspire others and so on. Great job. Out of a comment, two poems. Great job my friend.
