Sustenance

Doll in Wonderland

You don't want anything from me

You give way more than you take

Always the first to extend a helping hand

You never complain

Not when life is hard, or people die

You'll say it's all in God's plan

To a nonbeliever, this seems impossible

But at the same time,

Makes me want to believe

You already have my heart

You keep it carefully tucked away from view

And no one understands

Why it didn't work out between us

Sometimes there is just too many miles

That I love you's on the phone can't cover

But I always know someday I will come home to you.

My trajectory has other plans for now

So I will hold our conversations close

Instead of holding you

It's our conversations that get me through bad days

And thoughts of the next time I will see you

Since I have nothing else to give

At least I can offer you a little sustenance

To make up for leaving you

I hope that something in your belly

Can maybe soothe an empty home and heart

At least for now

Until I can come home to you.

Thanks for another great poem DOLL. Perfectly spaced free verse ~ full of flow and go ! The subject of "love at a distance in space and time" strikes a chord in many of us. My lovers in CYBER SPACE do provide me with astral sustenance but in reality I will never meet them ! So i can empathise ~ You are lovely ~ Your poems are mega ~ Love you both ~ BRIAN
