JOURNEYS

JOURNEYS

AS A YOUNG NEW SAILOR

I’VE LIVED ON THE SEA

FROM PORT TO PORT I WOULD GO

SEARCHING FOR MY DESTINY

THE PEOPLE I’VE MET

ARE ALL LOST THROUGH THE YEARS

TO BE LEFT ALONE

IS THE WORST OF MY FEARS

TO HOME I FOUND COMFORT

ALL JOURNEYS HAVE ENDS

TO FIND WHAT AWAITS ME

WITH FAMILY AND FRIENDS

THEN I MET A YOUNG WOMAN

HER SMILE BRIGHT AS THE SUN

I KNEW RIGHT AWAY

THAT SHE WOULD BE THE ONE

I TOOK HER HAND IN MARRIAGE

AND GAVE THE KEY TO MY HEART

KNOWING IN MY MIND NOW

THAT WE WOULD NEVER PART

BUT THE SEA CALLED OUT TO ME

WITH EACH CRASHING SOUND

ON THE SHORELINE I STOOD

AS THE SUN WOULD GO DOWN

HER EYES FILLED WITH TEARS

AS I TOOK TO THE SEA

TO FOLLOW THE WINDS

AS THEY CALLED UPON ME

THIS JOURNEY WAS NEW

IT WASN’T LIKE BEFORE

FIVE THOUSAND ANGELS CRIED

TO SETTLE THE SCORE

NOW THE BATTLE WAS FOUGHT

OUR TASK ALMOST DONE

TOWARD HER ARMS I WOULD SAIL

INTO THE MORNING SUN

THE TIME I’VE BEEN AWAY

ADDS UP THROUGH THE YEARS

BUT YOU’VE STOOD AND WAITED

TRYING TO SMILE THROUGH THE TEARS

FOR A COMPANION FOR LIFE

I COULDN’T ASK FOR MORE

FOR THE HUGS AND KISSES

WHEN I WALK THROUGH THE DOOR

I’M CONSUMED BY YOUR LOVE

AND LOST IN YOUR EYES

IN YOUR COMFORT I FIND PEACE

YOU CAN TELL BY MY SIGHS

MY WORLD IS COMPLETE

WITH YOU BY MY SIDE

ON YOUR NEVER-ENDING JOURNEY

MY HEARTS JUST ALONG FOR THE RIDE

AS A CRUSTY OLD SAILOR

WHO’S LIVED ON THE SEA

WITH YOU I WILL STAY NOW

I’VE FOUND MY DESTINY

Thanks SH ~ Like so many Old Sailors ~ you have found (to your satisfaction) that the call of the SIREN outbids the call of the SEA. Again a beautifully structured poem. Thanks for sharing BRIAN Please check my latest poem HAPPINESS ~ OK
