BROKEN

Ternic73

Young and strong and off to war
Soldiers don’t know what their fighting for
Spirits high boots on the ground
Mortars firing what a huge sound
Branches breaking, whispering voices
Soldiers don’t have too many choices
Preparing for a fight
Just stay down and out of site
Spirits crack, bodies broken
American flags just a small token
Mind begins to race, not sure what to do
Dreams haunt them at night of friends lost in the fight
Spirits fractured and broken beyond repair
Feeling guilty because you came home
How do you show them their not a lone
Bodies heal, spirits mend
Just remember their watching, your friends

HI ANGEL ~ Thanks for posting another of your very elegant "War Poems" It is elegant in structure (rhyming couplets and good meter) and subject ~ The price our Military pay to ensure our safety. As I said elsewhere I am a perfrmance poet and BROKEN is smooth to read and recite ~ an excellent poem ~ Thanks for sharing ~ Yours BRIAN. Please check my latest poem ~ Petry is .....? in which i try to explore "What is a Poem ?" Thanks B
