Startled awake, sweating from a horrible dream
All I remember is gunfire and screams
Running and firing in the fight
Battle that continued throughout the night
I grab the picture next to my bed
A picture of you and me, except your dead
Tears start rolling down my face
I should have got you out of that place
At your funeral, I couldn't look at your families faces
I will never forget that awful day
I don't know what to say
With your life the ultimate price you paid
Twenty one gun salute and "Taps" played on the horn
For you, your friends and family mourn
I stand at attention and salute you my friend
You are our guardian angel, until me meet again

Thank you TERESA for ~ Another Elegant poem ~ another sad sad Battle Scene. In the end all we can say is: PRO PATRI MORTI ~ DEUS CUM VOBIS IN SQUEQUO NOS OPPORTUNUS ITERUN ~ You died for your Country ~ God be with you until we meet again, Thanks for sharing ~ Love BRIAN
Tribute to fallen friend with some survivor guilt. Nicely done.
Thank you I didn't know what to call this poem so that was the best I could do
