Innocence

semicolon01

Can you see the real me?
Beyond all the fake smiles, fake laughs, and tears of "joy"
Can you feel the pain that sustains a cold barrier between love and hate?
The love that once covered me like a blanket on a cold day,
Can you see it?
Can you feel it? Oh, how my heart cries out to those of a uneventful remembrance.
To those who cannot open their eyes and see the world so out of reach,
Beyond the grasp that I thought of to be ever-so precious.
Within the sweet honey dew, and the peaceful birds that sing every so sweetly in tune outside my window,
I laugh, I cry,
I live, I die,
But the world continues its spin in nothing but greed and desire wanting nothing more than the decline of another.

Hatred sneaks in ever door and window,
From the innocent young child staying away from his mother to the old man lying on his deathbed in hopes of being relieved of his fate,
The laughs that we had once shared are now distant memories in an old mind,
Wanting to be unearthed, but can't.

How do you love again while your heart is broken?
The incapability of having someone that you love holding you close and telling you that everything is going to be alright,
But then you realize you can't rely on that "love."
Because now it belongs to someone else, that someone who was just a "friend" to your true pride and heart.
Oh how, tell me how,
Do you show compassion with a cold narrow heart?

A heart no longer feeling the butterflies, and no longer realizing the truth from the lies,
A heart, A heart,
Oh how it feels to speak that ever so forgetful word,
A word that left the mind of a loving one so intensely broken,
Along with her spirits,
And any hopes of ever feeling like she's worth it,
Never to trust again.
Oh what happened to that innocence?

  • Comment from author about the poem: To me this poem just symbolizes that love that you\'ve had but can\'t feel anymore. It crushed every part of your being. How could you feel it again? When your body was numb to that ONCE so comforting love? A fire that couldn\'t sustain itself even if it was covered in gasoline. How could you do it again?

Thanks SC for posting your first poem. It is a beautifully constructed poem pulsating with rhythm but also full of remorse and angst. Beautiful structure but a very sad subject ! I'm older than you (33 and still single) so i have loved and lost several times. There is life after lost love ~ my current GF Christine (28) is all I need and I hope to get married shortly. Thinking of you ~ praying for you ~ Thanks for caring & sharing ~ Love BRIAN I hope you found sharing you sorrow cathartic ~ Yours B

Thanks so much! But I really write these things based on what my soul is telling me. I know that love is out there and we (as humans) have to wait it out. But sometimes you have to sit back and decipher things with a different mindset so far as to; we never know when we'll perish.
