Battles fought a life time ago
So for you to let your pain show
Remembering the days you try so hard to forget
I can see you are filled with so much regret
No one understands what you’ve been through
Only others who are soldiers like you
You fought for our country without fail
American flag over his coffin, his wife’s black veil
Sacrifices made from every women and man
Fighting for freedom as hard as they can
Battles fought a life time ago
Time to let all that pain, go
We teach our children about the sacrifices you made
Their eyes wide open about the price soldiers paid
Questions asked about the battles won
You remember watching the rising sun
From a fox hole on top of a hill
Memories sent a big chill
Battles fought a lifetime ago
