Sliding Away

Izzi Lynn

I spot him smiling at me out of the corner of my eye.
I can't help myself smiling ear to ear in a stupid, silly grin,
He's teasing me and I'm teasing him right back.

He calls me little sis and it's just not the same
as cutie or sunshine.
But the sound of my own laughter fills the air.
I don't like to laugh very often,
but he's the exception to my stern rule.
I'm okay with being his little sis,
as long as he's still Hawk and I'm still Izzi Kat.

He's my weakness and he's my strength.
I see the bright flash of my camera and hear the little ding.
A smile floods my face,
because who else would text me back at 1AM?

I opened my eyes in a blurry haze
I'd taken a short nap on the highway to somewhere
Figured it was naptime so I closed my eyes.
Now my fingers are cold and blood is rushing back to my head.

The sun is setting and the air is chilly.
Inside the car I can feel the cold air parting around us.
It felt like nap time when I closed my eyes,
now it just feels like a yawn I never finished.

The air here reminds me of home
and it's undamned the river.
Green eyes sparkle and glimmer in the light.

I still snap him every day.
I still smile when I see his name on my phone.
But I can't ask for him to wait forever
and I know he has to move on.
I was the one who moved, but I'm not the one
who's ready to let go.

He's a piece of me.
He's not some friend,
he's a piece of me.
Letting him go would be like letting a piece of myself go.
He knows me
and I know him.
But he's fading and I'm slipping away.

Thanks SILVER for a well written poem. Love the concept of HAWK and IZZI KAT ! I do call some of the Ladies on MPS "SISTER" but never LITTLE SIS (WOULDN'T DARE !) I'm 33 but when I was young we didn't have mobiles so when my GF's moved away communication was difficult (almost impossible !). You have mobiles and you don't have to let each other GO ~ However as you say (and it's happens !) "He's fading and I'm slipping away" Yours BRIAN Please check my poem ~ Thanks B.
