CHRISTMAS PRESENT

BRIAN & ANGELA

Outsdie Macy's hear him ring

His bell above the traffic's sound

No Sally Army Band to sing

A CD player on the ground !

But where have all the shoppers gone

They CHRISTMAS shop @ Amazon !

The CHURCHES getting ready too

To tell the World that Advent's here

Plastic holly round the pew

Welcome for Yuletide Songs and BEER

A sacred and a secular mix

We all still need our CHRISTMAS fix !

CHRISTMAS cards are CHRISTMAS past

I'm sending mine through the e-mail

It's cheap ~ impersonal and fast

And reaches worldwide without fail

Flimsy paper when we print it

No stiff cards ~ how I lament it !

No CHRISTMAS presents wrapped with bows

No bath salts ~ inexpensive scent

Hand knitted jumpers ~ shapeless clothes

No hideous tie ~ so kindly meant.

I'm sending vouchers to my Friends

Let her decide on what she spends !

But is it true ? YES it is TRUE

The most tremendous truth of all

Seen in a stained glass window's hue

A baby in a oxen stall.

The maker of the stars above

Become a Child to show God's Love !

No love that in a Family dwells

No carols in the frosty air

Not all the electronic bells

Can with this awesome truth compare

God's Son in Bethlehem was born

We sing his praise on CHRISTMAS MORN !

Thanks for visiting ~ comments are welcome

Christmas Blessings to all BRIAN ~ XOX

  • Comment from author about the poem: When we look at pictures of CHRISTMAS PAST it has changed a lot ! The congestion of Christmas Shoppers in London had thinned because of Amazon ~ Carol Services include "Chestnuts roasting on an open fire" as well as Silent Night. Because UK Schools are multi faith the Nativity Play has been replaced by Santa Claus and the Snow Angels. Even in the UK Families go to a Hotel for Christmas Dinner. Church Choirs sing in Supermarkets rather than door to door' I did go to Macy's (New York) at Christmas a few year ago and the Sally Army Officer was there with his Bell as in the 1930's films but with an Electronic Band I still gave him $10 because the Salvation Army do a unique job Worldwide every day please support them this CHRISTMAS. Thanks for visiting ~ Love BRIAN XOX

Thanks SWEETHEART for a very positive and uplifting comment ! Christmas (however we interpret it) is a time ripe for goodwill and TLC. We provide a Christmas Dinner for the homeless at the Sally Army and undies ~ chocs ~ socks for the Night Shelter. Many of us in the UK and the USA have so much we get an opportunity to care and share. I have visited BETHLEHEM (Love the Holy land) and seeing a Shepherd with his sheep was a real PSALM 23 experience. Love and Hugs ~ BRIAN. Could you please add a JEWISH FESTIVAL to my new FUSION POEM ~ FESTIVALS I LOVE ~ Thanks BRIAN XOX

          Welcome

        • Augustus

A kingdom afar of poetry wrest,
          Brightens Yule Tide's swollen breast.
          Unknown numbers do readily sate,
Praise this fountain of steady faith.
