Links of Steel

Augustus

Links of steel forever bind me,

Links of Iron from the start.

Links of chain drag me down now,

                                      Links of steel never part.

Links that grip me left their mark

In my head and on my heart.

Will these shackles ever leave me?

                                      Links of steel never part.

Links twined round one the other,

                                      Each began long and straight,

Bent with fire, force, then smothered,

                                      Now in cold embrace weight.

Links to the past without end,

                                      Even in death they remain,

Forged in hate, love and sin

I'm ever grappled in this chain.

                                      Links of steel never part.

Thanks "A" for a great write and a great read. "LORD please take these chains from my heart and set me free." While STEEL is mainly IRON there are also alloying elements which affect the properties of the STEEL ! Carbon ~ manganese ~ titanium ~ ~ vanadium ~ chromium ~ cobalt ~ nickel ~ tungsten etc. In your analogy these elements could represent the sins which permeate our lives and make the chains much stronger and the links not subject to errosion ! STEEL is a big subject ~ thanks for sharing ~ BRIAN

I see your point about sin. Perhaps one could consider these ideas of incorporating alloys as contamination. And, Yes, yes, I was surprised years ago to find that forge work was more about chemistry than anything else. All of those different elements affect hardness, toughness, pliability etc. I worked mainly with "real iron" salvaged from the the late1800's and early 1900's, and scrap iron the content of which was mainly unknow, at least to me. It was a hobby so I did not have to make a living from it. Thanks for reading and commenting. I posted one on the 5 senses today that I wrote last evening.
