I only understand the feeling of leaving

No matter how many times
You told me otherwise, held my hands, and kissed me
I only know, all too well,
That jack hammer heart sensation
All excited about a future
With we and us, instead of I and me
Only to have that spark never ignite into flame
My heart was what you warmed your hands in
Feeling that fire that resides in me
I didn't see yours was out, ages ago
Take what you need
I only comprehend
Where this was going, in circles, or worse, standing still
After I've mapped out your skin,
And travelled the miles
Intimately knowing the expanse of your land
Weary from travelling,
Not knowing I will always just be a tourist, to you
And you never knew
That crossing my territory, you walked on my heart
That expansive ocean, lying beneath the surface
I'm going to kiss you goodbye
Even if you say it's not, I know better
I hope you find whatever it is you're looking for.
