Voice of Sweet Reason

Augustus

A voice cross distance chastising gently–

A sweet voice teasing sinews of thought,

Thought knotted, gnarled, in mind–

Mine tied to those present, teachings past,

Long does doctrine in doctrine last.

"Tether not to ancients, what others think.

Knots unfurl, can be severed," Reason winked.

Could that it be so, my champion–

These ties link my heart to their souls.

Chained feet must tread where they are told.

But mine ear listens might well I blunder

And trample sweet Reason asunder.

Sing sweet Reason. Sing!

  • Comment from author about the poem: Sometime we do things over and over because of the ways we have been indoctrinated, and to honor our parents, mentors and teachers. The mind struggles to make the necessary changes.
