  • Comment from author about the poem: We all celebrate with half a dozen in the back garden ~ small fire ~ few fireworks ~ and a BBQ. We also have large Civic Bonfires (with a Fire Engine in attendance !) which can cost about £5 ($8) or a donation for Charity. The party goes on irrespective of Weather which is often very wet ! GOD does not like the fires to spread ! All MALES really enjoy Bonfire Night ~ Ladies are ambivalent and Pets hate it ! With big Bonfires we always burn an effigy of GUY FAWKS in 16th Century costume' I less PC Days as kids we would hawk the GUY round the Streets and ask for a PENNY FOR THE GUY to enable us to buy FIREWORKS especially BANGERS and RIP-RAPS to scare the GIRLS. On balance it's more fun than THANKSGIVING ! Love to all and good Bonfire ~ BRIAN XOX.

Another great acrostic! very informative. We americans love a good bonfire too! Your bangers must be what we call firecrackers? Well done, Brian!

TtHANKS CHRIS ~ I am hooked on Acrostuic ! I have now added a PICTURE ~ You miht like to revisit.. Yes BANGER = FIRECRACKERS but is also a slang term for SAUSAGES because they explode in the pan. We will have Bangers & Mash & Onion Gravy at my parents house tomorrow. I'm not teaching this afternoon so I am catching up on my poetry ~ Its good to talk ~ Love & Hugs in the Spirit ~ BRIAN

Cajuns living along the Mississippi River light fires on Christmas Eve along the leve next to the river. There are hundreds of them to light the way for Papa Noel the night befor Christmas. Hundreds of green bamboo poles are added around to the fire and the swelling joints pop like fireworks. Enjoyed.

This style always eluded my humble attempts, though I do love the English Sonnett, the Kyrielle is a favorite of mine...you write with a beautiful depth along with imagery and pssion..."scent of woodsmoke" creates a lovely feeling and fragrce from your poem....(forgive grammr, on my cell...tiny keys...Mel

Thanks MEL ~ I like the form and flow of Classical Poetic structures ! With "free verse acrostics" the important thing is to have lines of similar length which gives the poem flow ! Some "modern poetry" has neither rhyme nor reason. I am a performance poet so I like poems to be reciteable as all yours are ! Yours BRIAN
