Autumn leaves are licked from their
homes by the fierce howling winds.
Colors on the ground just a mucky brown.
A sign to invite the long winter in.
It gets darker sooner. A sure sign
of impending cold and snow flakes.
After holidays are gone, the
shadows lend to my heart ache.
It's important to get enough sun
to give yourself the vitamins you need.
Defeat the cold with outdoor exercise.
Stay healthy all winter long, indeed!

- Comment from author about the poem: 4-6% of people get S.A.D. or seasonal affective disorder or simply "winter depression" as the days get shorter and sunlight becomes less and less available in winter. (Referring to northern climates like the U.S.) Another 10-20% get a mild form of S.A.D. or a "touch of the winter blues". --aafp.org and National Institute of Health

Good poetry. I live where we get cold winters. I am fortunate that I can ski a couple of times in the season. One way to deal with winter.
Thanks so much for reading it. Yes we have a lot of winter sports here also.
Great write. I live on a farm and love eating the leaves change color. I alway feel sad to see them fall from the trees
Me too...cuz they start off being such vibrant colors then they just turn brown. Thanks for reading
Welcome
THANKS CHRIS ~ I can understand people getting S.A.D. in Michigan you get such cold weather in the Winter ~ snow and ice ~ no wonder the snowbirds stay in FLORIDA until MAY ! Love your poem As you get older (sorry !) the seasons get shorted especially Spring and Summer but the Winter gets longer. We now get more Fall Color in the UK ~ but in a few weeks it will be gone ! V2. The longer nights seems to make 24 hours like 48 at least we have artificial light to enable us to get out more orr stay in and watch TV ~ think what it was like 300 years ago (1716) when everyone in Michigan was like TRUMP ! V3 Michigan advertises itself as an all year round fun state ~ so get your skis on and ENJOY ! Love & Hugs in a frozen BUBBLE ~ BRIAN
Yes we have a lot of frozen activities..but I'm not so good with the skis!! I'm tall and it's a long way down! LOL It is a fun state, just seems like the skies turn grey instead of blue the way they ought to be. It's not always like that though. Would rather have snow than hurricanes of Florida. Lots of hugs in a cold cold bubble--Christina
Yes and docs today recommend light of a certain wave length to help combat. Instructive!
Thanks!
