I was happy,
Enough.
Or more, I was sailing on an even keel.
Ripples broke the surface, but they did not shake me from my course
Until you.
You and your white horses, cresting, roaring.
Adrenaline kicking, I’m pitching.
Nose to the wave, it peaks, and I see possibilities.
I’m not the only one who dreams my dreams.
But then it breaks, and I’m falling.
.
.
.
No-one but the empty ocean to catch me and I’m left clinging to the wreck.
“A calm sea never made a skilled sailor”
But I’m waiting for this storm to pass, with salt crusted on my cheeks.

WELCOME ELLE ~ Thanks you for an excellent first poem ~ figurative and challenging. I have done some sailing and your similies are very aot to Life and Love. I is true in my experience as well that "calm sea never made a skilled sailor" ! Thanks for sharing. Your BRIAN (UK)
Thanks for the welcome. I'm glad you enjoyed the poem. I've done a little sailing as well, but surfing for me captures the same feelings. And there has to be waves for that. Elle
