LIVING A LIFE THAT MATTERS ~ A Sonnet

BRIAN & ANGELA

Living a life that matters ~ someday it must end

No sunrises no sunsets ~ everything that you hold dear

Will pass to your descendents !  Everything will dissapear !

Your hopes ~ ambitions ~ plans ~ will fade into oblivion

Won't matter WHO or WHAT you were nothing will outlive you !

So what will matter ~ how will your VALUE be recalled ?

Not what you had ~ but what you gave ~ remembered by us all !

Not so much what you had learned ~ but how well you taught

Sacrifice ~ integrity others battles that you fought

How you encouraged others ~ how you gave others thought !

So what is important is your example ~ when you've gone

Not you competence or luxury ~ it's your LOVE that lingers on !

Not how long or hard you worked ~ but what you're working for

LIVING A LIFE THAT MATTERS ~ THE CHOICE MY FRIEND IS YOURS !

  • Comment from author about the poem: Scientists now reckon that maximum life span is about 125 years ~ so all of us have to go sometime in the next 100 years ! We all leave goods or money etc for our Families ~ BUT ~ after we've gone it's our character that counts ! What overall impression will you leave ? Comments welcome ~ Love to all ~ BRIAN XOX

I lost a relative recently. This is very appropriate. I can relate and was reminded of her. Excellent tribute to what is really important.

THANKS WBL ~ We often wish could attend our own funerals to find out what people thought of us when we have gone ! BRIAN

Good point! And, I wish some of these people had said the things they say at funerals to the person's face before they died.

Since my diagnosis my wife and I have a saying ---do what really matters. Helps put things in perspective. Nicely done. P.S. Was looking forward to one of Britain's finest on my poem yesterday, Pound Sterling? Thanks.

A very sobering message which all should heed. The words are so true and yet, sadly, many people still live their lives along lines that will be forgotten when they depart. Well done on a very good piece which I have enjoyed reading and which I hope will have a positive impact on others 😀 xx

Yes, it is our legacy that matters , not what we acquired, Very well written, Brian. It reminds us all to live up to that standard. Happy Thanksgiving (although you are not celebrating). Hugs in spirit--CHristina
