Spies in Red Felt: Effen Elves

WriteBeLight

NO! NO! NO! No, not that,

No way to handle good kids or brats.

Using a spy dressed up in red felt.

Find better way, behavior to be dealt.

What I write here is just to pose thought.

Spy approach to Christmas might suit your Tots.

So, I ask that you just hear me out.

Then leave a comment, jot your feelings down.

Spy’s supposed to report all to Santa.

Good or bad, it really doesn’t matter.

Should we think of this as just dalliance?

Make kids acceptable to state of surveillance?

Critics argue that it is a threat,

To the trust from you, your child should get.

Maybe even a form of borderline cruelty?

You impose upon them when they act unruly.

Maybe I’m just of the fashion of old.

I like the thought, you’re bad you get coal.

Others argue Spy backs up a lie.

Because Santa doesn’t exist, there’s no such guy?

Is using the Elf putting your family in danger?

Of forgetting the Holiday is about a child in a manger?

Isn’t the spirit of giving, what we should feel?

And, for all of humanity on Earth to heal?

So, the question I pose, is it harmless fun?

Or, leaving children with harm can’t be undone?

The choice, of course, is up to the parents,

Caregivers, Grandparents, whomever is apparent.

I never thought Santa the type of guy,

For tracking, he’d deploy a bunch of spies.

Because if you’re creative, you just might find,

A kinder, gentler approach, to keep kids in line.

  • Comment from author about the poem: I really do not like the idea of the Elf on a Shelf. But, I know a lot of people do. Nevertheless, I wanted to write a poem about what I think. You decide.

Anyone who argues for the gentler touch is ok in my books, - even if they are just muscle for santa. Haha.

Thanks. I just really have an issue with the creepiness. The doll reminds me of an episode of the Twight Zone, when a kid turned an adult into a Jack In The Box. Very creepy..:) Thanks for the comment!

we as a people cannot be trusted and as we gradually turn our freedoms over to the government spying will become necessary to protect the rights of others. Especially the less fortunate. I suggest comrade WBL that the early acceptance of spying on others by youth is necessary. Should you continue to criticize spying you may be selected for a 2 year stay in a re-learning center.

I hate those elves!πŸ˜„ Maybe because they are dressed in red? Can\'t say because my Mom\'s side of the family IS Russian, which she calls White Russian. True story! So I guess I need a drinkπŸ˜‰ In any event, someone is making a lot of money on this approach to the holiday. Santa doesn\'t need red felt thugs dressed in UggsπŸ™‚πŸ˜ŠπŸ˜„πŸ˜€ as you know I always love your witty input!

I totally agree with this! Not a fan of elf on the shelf myself; such a horrific waste of resources when there are those with nothing over the festive period. I also agree that it doesn't teach them the best; I've seen young recipients acting up and blaming said elf; not to mention conditioning the young to accept surveillance. A great one! xx

Thank you so much! So far, people I have asked about this topic agree that there is something odd about this approach to Christmas. Thanks so much for your comment!..:)
