LAMENT FOR THE DAY AFTER CHRISTMAS !
The Party is over ~ the Visitors gone
The Tree's shedding needles ~ the Cards falling down
The Turkey is eaten ~ comotose ~ Uncle John !
And all the Young Ones are out in the Town !
Christmasses come ~ and Christmasses go
And nobody knows where they went
My account's in the red ~ my new bike's in the shed
An' all of me money is squandered an' spent !
My Grannie from Wales ~ has shot off to the Sales
Looking for bargains ~ all through the Town
Buyin' us things for next Christmas
Cos it cheaper now t'prices are down !
The Crib and the Carols ~ the Christmassy Candles
Are all polished and packed til next Year
And in a week's time ~ We'll all sing AULD LANG SYNE
And for Old Father Christmas ~ we'll not shed a tear !
Thanks for visiting ~ comments welcome ~ Love BRIAN XOX
Hope you enjoyed Christmas and are recovering gracefully !

- Comment from author about the poem: The Day after Christmas ~ BOXING DAY ~ as we call it in the UK ~ because all the presents (lovely & gross) are all packed in boxes and put in the loft ! And in REAL Families there is usually a PUNCH UP or TWO on BOXING DAY. We resolve that all the mistakes we made this year we won't repeat in 2017 ! Like having a turkey bigger than the oven and inviting Uncle Willy (despite what he did in 2015 !) and not controlling the booze to less than TEN UNITS per person ! In my experience the JOYS & BLESSINGS of CHRISTMAS far outweigh the disasters ~ so don't let the GRINGE cancel it in 2017 ! Enjoy ALL the rest of the holiday ~ A HAPPY NEW YEAR to you ALLl ! I get this, a lot. My favorite days are the days leading to Christmas and the day itself. I try not to feel blue on a day like today, even though as I write this I have to get my house in order. But, all the same, great job on your poem. I love the part about Grannie from Wales. Very good job!
Thanks WBL ~ for your encouraging comment ! I love all the poems on MPS ~ especially yours ! We can all learn from each other and poetry does allow us to express ourselves ~ As you say WRITE BE LIGHT! Hugs for 2017 ~ BRIAN
Hugs back to you! And, thanks so much for the comment. I agree about the ability to express ourselves. We are fortunate for this....:)

I never knew what boxing day was but great job on your poem! I do not get sad after Christmas thank goodness. Had a great Christmas and hope you did too!-Hugs in spirit--Christina
GOOD MORNING CHRISTINA ~ Well now you know ~ It is also "The Feast of Saint Stephen". I know several Stephens and they are all 21st C Saints ! I am thrilled your CHRISTMAS JOY lasts bccause so many get the blues (and a hangover) after Christmas ~ especially when the bills (invoices) come in. One of the fruits of the Spirit is MODERATION and I like to moderate in all things ~even at Christmas ~ you know it makes sense !
